When Rosemead High School English teacher Stacy Lim returned from parental leave after the birth of her son, breastfeeding became a constant stressor alongside balancing her teaching duties.
Initially, she began pumping breastmilk in her classroom during breaks, but the space wasn’t completely private; administrators and maintenance workers had occasionally walked in for regular classroom checks on fire extinguishers or lightbulbs.
El Monte Union High School District came up with a solution: Mamava lactation pods, portable units that provide a private and sanitary space for breastfeeding parents.
Each pod can be unlocked via the Mamava app and the space includes a seat, mirror, fan for white noise, shelves, outlets and coat hooks. The pods are open to breastfeeding teachers and staff, a
