Air traffic controller staffing shortages were reported Monday afternoon at Hollywood Burbank Airport.
As of 4:15 p.m., the airport in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley was expecting to be without air traffic controllers due to sick calls, last-minute day-off requests and staffing issues, air traffic controllers at the airport told NBCLA. The airport has a system in place to handle air traffic control duties in the event of a shortage, they said.

The staffing shortage is not connected to the federal government shutdown that started last week, the air traffic controllers said. Air traffic controllers are among the federal employees who typically continue working during a federal government shutdown.
