PHOENIX (AZFamily) — With Hurricane Priscilla spinning in the Pacific, we are forecasting increasing chances of rain by the weekend because of Priscilla’s expected remnants. This setup is a good reminder that, even though the monsoon is over, tropical systems can still provide ingredients for heavy rain in October.
There are several notable October tropical systems that delivered remnants to Arizona. One of the worst was Tropical Storm Octave in 1983. From late September to October 7th, Octave combined with remnants from a few other systems to deliver some of the worst flooding in Arizona’s history.
According to the National Weather Service, this storm resulted 975 injures and 14 deaths. In the Tucson and Marana area, it flooded the banks along parts of the Santa Cruz River and Rillito
