PEORIA, Ill. – A central Illinois organization is celebrating 100 years of service to South Peoria.

South Side Mission marked a century with a celebration at the Civic Center Monday night.

Executive Director Reverend Craig Williams says the backbone of the Mission making it to 100 years is its volunteers and supporters.

“Just to stand in these times like they are, uncertain times, it’s been God’s people that pray and support us financially,” Williams said.

One of those volunteers is Diane Pflederer, who received the Helen Haien Good Samaritan Award at the celebration. Williams says Pflederer is a 40 year volunteer with the organization who has served on the board, helped with grant writing, and helped hand out meals during the holiday season.
