DELAND, Fla. – A 37-year-old man faces charges after stabbing another man over an alleged stolen bicycle, according to the DeLand Police Department.

According to a news release , DeLand police and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office responded to the stabbing report at 724 S. Palmetto Avenue around 8 a.m. on Monday.

Responding officers found a 29-year-old man suffering from two stab wounds to the back. The victim was airlifted to Halifax Health as a trauma alert.

Police said the suspect fled on foot before police arrived and was not immediately located. As a precaution, a shelter-in-place order was issued for the surrounding neighborhood, and Starke Elementary School was place
