MOORHEAD — If you have walked by downtown Moorhead's Davy Memorial Park, there is a good chance you did a double-take.

That's because a local Eagle Scout has given two years of his time and talents to the city park, desgining and building a giant chess board.

It's not often that Moorhead Recreation Director Sean Brandenburg gets to play chess in one the city parks. But on Monday, he took on the talents of Moorhead Eagle Scout Ronan John, from Trinity Lutheran's Troop 637.

"I think my Dad taught me when I was young and it just stuck with me and I love chess," John said.

The pawns, knights, bishops and more are all knee- and hip-high. The chess board itself is made of patio pavers.
