BEACHWOOD, Ohio -- Following in the path of its partner in deer population management, the city of Shaker Heights, Beachwood City Council voted Monday (Oct. 20) to pursue a management path that will include both deer culling and sterilization.

Beachwood and Shaker Heights will also partner with the city of South Euclid which, with the aid of Cuyahoga County Councilwoman Sunny Simon, of South Euclid, pioneered the dual approach within Cuyahoga County and the state.

Shaker Heights City Council approved legislation in late September to do both culling and sterilization to take place in December (culling) and January (sterilization). South Euclid, meanwhile, began actually enacting such a program, at Simon’s urging, three years ago.
