BAY VILLAGE, Ohio -- Two candidates are running in the November election for the Ward 1 City Council seat -- Dave Tadych and Steven Swidarski.

Both candidates addressed voters during a Sept. 29 forum held by the League of Women Voters of Greater Cleveland.

Tadych was a long-time Ward 1 councilman until he was replaced on Jan. 1, 2024, by Dave Long, who subsequently resigned on July 14, 2025, stating that he was no longer a resident of the ward.

Tadych had represented the ward for approximately 20 years under two mayors and had served as vice president of council for six years, chairman of the Finance Committee for six years and a member of the Finance Committee for 16 years.

He had been the vice president of information systems for Mr. Coffee prior to retiring at the age of 51. He also
