A former White House cabinet secretary warned in a new essay Monday that President Donald Trump and a cadre of three officials are putting Americans in "imminent danger."
Robert Reich, who served as Labor Secretary during the Clinton administration, wrote in a new Substack essay that Trump appears to be creating conditions for either martial law or civil war. His comments come at a time when the president is deploying troops from red states into blue states.
Reich argued that the plan appears to have been cooked up by the "troika" of Vice President JD Vance, senior advisor Stephen Miller, and OMB Secretary Russ Vought.
He added that Trump's moves to deploy the National Guard are part of a broader strategy to invoke the Insurrection Act, a law that gives the president broad powers to quell domestic dissent.
"I hope we don’t come near to this," Reich wrote. "I hope the federal courts, including the Supreme Court, stops Trump’s plan. But I believe it is Trump’s plan (the details of which have been worked out by the troika of Vance, Miller, and Vought), and they are implementing it as quickly as they can."
"I don’t want to unduly alarm you, but you need to be aware of this imminent danger," he continued. "It’s unfolding very rapidly."
