NORFOLK, Va. — For 11-year-old Guillermo “Big G” Cuellar III, building with Lego bricks became more than a hobby — it was a way to escape the pain and uncertainty of brain cancer treatment.
Big G, who was diagnosed with hydrocephalus and underwent chemotherapy at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in Norfolk, found peace in the small, colorful creations that filled his hospital room.
“Lego helped keep his mind off the illness,” his family said.
During his treatment, Big G teamed up with Patrick Myers, owner of Brick-In-Bad in Virginia Beach, to give back. Together, they donated $6,000 worth of Lego sets to other young patients at CHKD, hoping to bring them the same joy and distraction that Lego brought him.
