SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man is dead after he was hit by a train in Suffolk on Monday.

The tragic incident took place near the intersection of Wellons St. and Railroad Ave. around 8:30 a.m. Suffolk Emergency Communications was notified shortly after the collision.

Emergency crews arrived and found a man on the railroad tracks. He was pronounced dead at the scene and later identified as Travis Lamar Evans, 44, of Suffolk.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing. Authorities have not released further information at this time.
