BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A former nursing assistant has been indicted by a grand jury for negligent homicide, according to Louisiana State Attorney General Liz Murrill.

Authorities said the indictment of the former nursing assistant, Diamond Johnson, of Zachary, came following an investigation by AG Murrill’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.

According to Murrill’s office, Johnson worked at Jefferson Manor in Baton Rouge. She was using a hydraulic lift to move a patient from a chair to a bed when the patient slipped out of the side of the lift and landed on the feet of it, authorities said.

The patient became unresponsive about 40 minutes after the fall and could not be resuscitated.

Murrill’s office said an autopsy revealed the patient died from complications from blunt force injuries.
