CANYON, Texas (KFDA) - Canyon ISD announced Monday evening that Matt Lovorn has become the new interim head coach of the Canyon football team, taking over for longtime coach Todd Winfrey.

Canyon ISD athletic director, John Peterson, sent out a press release just after 7:00 p.m. CST on Monday.

Lovorn is the current offensive coordinator and associate head coach of the program and is also a Canyon alum. He was hired as a coordinator back in March 2023, where he helped lead the program under Winfrey.

Lovorn was previously the head coach at Stratford for eight seasons and spent 14 total years with the Elks. He helped Stratford win a state championship as the head coach.
