Broken limbs, concussions and cuts were some of the injuries posties sustained as they went about their job, according to new Australia Post data.

More than 280 posties sustained injuries as a result of 'third-party' accidents in the past financial year, at least five per week on average.

The postal service said some posties required hospital treatment, time off work and experienced ongoing psychological trauma.

Posties were increasingly being put at "risk by unsafe driver behaviour" according to general safety manager Russell Munro.
