NORMAN — Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables had no substantive update on John Mateer’s status when asked about the injured quarterback during his Monday night radio show.
“I don’t know when John Mateer will be back,” Venables said. “Really not even anything to talk about. He’s on a progression through however long it takes those injuries to heal.”
Mateer didn’t play against Kent State last Saturday after sustaining a thumb injury Sept. 20 versus Auburn and undergoing surgery during OU’s bye week. Mateer has not spoken to local media since the surgery, but did tell a Chipotle worker last week that he wants to try to play versus Texas on Saturday.
Michael Hawkins Jr., who started at quarterback against Kent State, would be under center again
