GODFREY — There wasn't much at stake in Monday's boys soccer game between Columbia and Alton Marquette at Glazebrook Park.

But it was hard to tell from how the Class 1A rivals battled.

The visiting Eagles came away with a 4-3 victory in the non-league match. The teams are favored to meet again in the sectional semifinals late this month. And for now, Columbia has bragging rights.

"Whenever we play, we expect a tough game,'' Columbia junior Owen Worcester said. "They had us down 1-0, but I expected us to fight back. And then, even after we took the lead, they kept coming back. Even when we were up by two goals, they never quit."
