COLLINSVILLE — One person died and another person was injured in a fiery collision between a pickup truck and a semi-truck on Sunday on Interstate 55 in Madison County, the Illinois State Police said.

The deceased victim’s name has not been released as investigators are awaiting confirmation of the person’s identity, the Madison County coroner’s office said Monday.

Officers were called to investigate a two-vehicle crash at about 3 a.m. Sunday on northbound I-55 south of Fairmont Avenue at milepost 8 in Collinsville, according to a state police news release.

Both vehicles caught fire after impact, according to the news release. The driver of the pickup was declared deceased and the driver of the semi was taken to a hospital, police said.
