(KIMT News 3)-- Sober October, a month-long challenge initially launched in 2014 in the United Kingdom, encourages individuals to abstain from alcohol to promote health and raise funds for cancer research. The concept has gained traction across the globe, including Southeastern Minnesota and North Iowa, where participants are reaping the benefits of a break from alcohol.

Cedric Weathersby, Men's Program Manager at Doc's Recovery House, highlighted the personal benefits of Sober October. "One of the big benefits of Sober October is people can realize some of the health benefits for themselves... your ability to think more clearly, feel better, more energy," Weathersby said.
