DULUTH — Friday's crosstown rivalry game between East and Denfeld high schools has sparked accusations that East players used racial slurs toward their opponents.
Duluth East took home a 33-6 win over Duluth Denfeld Friday at Marv Heikkinen Field at Walt Hunting Stadium, the Greyhounds’ first over the Hunters since 2021.
The end of the game, however, was marred by multiple unsportsmanlike conduct penalties called on both teams as emotions started to run high.
By Monday morning, however, it wasn’t the result that was on the tips of everyone’s tongue, but the pandemonium at the end of the game.
In a statement provided to local media, Duluth Public Schools confirmed it is investigating the incident and “working to gather the facts thoroughly and fairly.”
