Business owners in the wedding industry banded together to share their disapproval of Los Angeles County leaders’ plan to increase the cost of marriage licenses.

Last month, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors announced a 93% increase in public marriage licenses, raising the cost from $91 to $176. Confidential marriage licenses are slated to increase from $85 to $220.

“Eighty-five dollars is understandable; $220 can put us out of business,” said Dalia Cuevas, who runs Tina’s Wedding Chapel in Van Nuys.
