This early October stretch of sunshine and warmth won’t last much longer. High pressure anchored offshore is giving us a mild, quiet start to the week, with highs in the upper 70s and low 80s and overnight fog in spots.

By late Wednesday, a cold front pushes through Eastern North Carolina. Showers arrive with breezy conditions, and while thunder is limited, the front signals a sharp change. Behind it, strong northeast winds will affect the coastline Thursday and Friday. With King Tides already running Tuesday through Saturday, the added push of wind and waves could bring coastal flooding, rough surf, and dune erosion. Soundside flooding is also possible as water piles up in the Pamlico and Neuse.
