Several passengers were injured on Tuesday after an explosion struck a railway track in Pakistan’s southwestern Sindh province. The explosion caused five bogies of the Jaffar Express to derail, officials from the railway police were quoted by news agency PTI.
The explosion hit the Peshawar-bound Jaffar Express near Somarwah, close to Sultan Kot in Sindh’s Shikarpur district. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, authorities confirmed.
Rescue teams have been deployed at the site, while police and paramilitary forces have sealed off the area and begun collecting evidence to determine the cause of the blast. Initial assessments indicate that the railway track suffered extensive damage, reported PTI.
