**Helicopter Crash on Busy Highway Leaves Three Injured** An air ambulance crashed onto a busy highway in Sacramento on Monday night, resulting in chaos and at least three serious injuries. The incident occurred just after 7 p.m. as the helicopter was returning from a hospital after transporting a patient. Captain Justin Sylvia, a spokesperson for the Sacramento Fire Department, reported that the helicopter experienced an "in-air emergency" before the crash. Among the injured were a pilot, a nurse, and a paramedic, all of whom were taken to hospitals in critical condition. Remarkably, no injuries were reported among motorists on the highway, which Sylvia described as "mind blowing" given the circumstances. Witnesses observed the helicopter descending rapidly, prompting traffic to slow down. One woman was trapped beneath the wreckage, and a small crew from the fire department, along with bystanders, worked together to lift the aircraft enough to free her. "It took every ounce of all approximately 15 people to move that aircraft up just enough to get her out," Sylvia stated. The crash led to the closure of the eastbound lanes of Highway 50, according to Officer Mike Carrillo from the California Highway Patrol. The helicopter involved was identified as a REACH Air Medical helicopter. The company released a statement expressing their thoughts and prayers for those affected and confirmed that they are investigating the details of the incident. Images shared online showed a long line of cars backed up behind the crashed helicopter. Officer Carrillo noted that the cause of the crash is still under investigation, with emergency crews and CHP present at the scene. Sacramento City Councilwoman Lisa Kaplan, who was on a ride-along with law enforcement during the response, described seeing plumes of white smoke coming from the helicopter. "It’s really sombering and sobering. I am up flying with sheriff pilots that do this day in and day out. And it really makes you grateful for every day and grateful for our officers and our medical pilots," she remarked.
