Mumbai has witnessed a sharp increase in road accidents in 2023, according to the “Road Accidents in India 2023” report released by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

The city reported 2,533 traffic incidents last year, marking a 33.7% rise from 1,895 in 2022. These accidents led to 384 deaths and nearly 3,000 injuries. Speeding remained the leading cause of accidents in the city. It led to 2,479 accidents, resulting in 373 deaths and 3,242 injuries.
