EAST LANSING – A cursory glance at Michigan State’s schedule heading into the fall featured some expected wins and clear underdog scenarios.

A homecoming date against UCLA in East Lansing fit the former but it’s a week-to-week business and the biggest noise nationally last Saturday came at the Rose Bowl.

Amid a brutal start that included coach DeShaun Foster being fired after an 0-3 start, the Bruins played spoiler. As 24.5-point underdogs, they pulled off a shocking 42-37 Big Ten upset at home against then-No.7 Penn State.
