Haryana ADGP Y Puran Kumar Dies by Suicide in Chandigarh

In a tragic incident, Haryana's Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Y Puran Kumar allegedly died by suicide at his residence in Sector 11, Chandigarh, on Tuesday. Reports indicate that he used his service revolver to take his own life in the soundproof basement of his home. The police received information about the shooting around 1:30 PM and quickly arrived at the scene, where they found Kumar's body.

Chandigarh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur confirmed the incident, stating, "The body of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar was found at his residence. The CFSL (Central Forensic Science Laboratory) team has reached the spot, and an investigation is underway. More details will be known after the post-mortem. No suicide note was found."

Kumar's daughter discovered his body, and the police have cordoned off the area for further investigation. The weapon used in the incident has been recovered. Authorities are currently collecting evidence and recording statements from family members and staff to determine the cause of this tragic event.

At the time of the incident, Kumar's wife, Amneet P Kumar, a senior IAS officer, was in Japan on an official delegation led by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. Y Puran Kumar had recently been transferred to Rohtak’s Sunaria Jail, where Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is incarcerated. The police are exploring whether recent professional changes or personal issues may have influenced Kumar's decision. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and further investigations are ongoing.
