The United States witnessed a sharp fall in international student arrivals this August, with numbers dipping by nearly 19 percent compared with the same period last year. According to International Trade Administation an government arrival records, this marks the steepest decline outside of the COVID-19 pandemic years and is raising fresh concerns for universities that depend heavily on foreign enrollments.

Experts told The New York Times that a mix of administrative hurdles and policy decisions as key reason behind the fall. The Trump administration’s tighter immigration measures like ranging from visa interview delays and new travel restrictions on 19 countries to stricter vetting of student visa applicants, have made it harder for students to reach the U.S.
