PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence City Council’s Committee on Ordinances passed amendments to the city’s community-police relations act.
Last night, the committee said they heard dozens of people speak in favor of the proposed amendments during their meeting.
The amendments would define “prohibited cooperation” between the Providence Police Department and federal immigration authorities as well as enhancing accountability mechanisms.
The amendments now advance to the full city council.
The council’s next meeting is scheduled for October 16.
