LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Walking down the sidewalk and into the doors of High Street YMCA has brought the downtown community together for more than six decades, but the doors will not be open much longer.

It is a place used nearly every day, but inside and out, the wear and tear is easy to see.

For some, those imperfections add to the charm.

"It was built with integrity, and it was built with a sense of civic pride," Kevin Dearinger, a longtime member, said.

Dearinger said he remembers when the building first went up, and seeing it sold is difficult to accept.

"I know that the building is not in the best of shape," Dearinger said. "I know that renovating it would be expensive, but to sell it and to put in more student housing..."
