A 45-year-old man who was killed when a large metal object smashed through his windshield while he was driving on the Dan Ryan Expressway has been identified.

Jackine L. Austin, 45, of the city’s West Side, was pronounced dead Monday at 5:44 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled.

Austin was driving at about 5:10 am. Monday in the southbound express lanes of the Dan Ryan at 29th Street when the object crashed through his windshield of his gray GMC Yukon SUV that had crashed into the concrete wall, state police said.

The metal is believed to have come off a semi-trailer with an intermodal container, state police said.
