New Delhi: India is set to roll out biometric authentication for Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions starting Wednesday, October 8, 2025. This new system will allow users to verify payments using fingerprint scans or facial recognition, eliminating the need to enter a PIN.

The biometric data will be sourced from the government’s Aadhaar system, ensuring secure verification. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which manages UPI, announced that this feature will be demonstrated at the ongoing Global Fintech Festival in Mumbai.

This initiative follows recent guidelines from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) promoting alternative authentication methods for digital payments. Experts say the move will enhance security and user convenience by reducing dependence on PIN
