HOWLAND, Ohio (WKBN) - The Ohio Department of Transportation has activated new cameras at the diverging diamond in Howland.
The cameras monitor traffic at the Route 82/46 interchange. There are four panels to the camera view that show traffic flow both on the roadways and on the various ramps.
According to ODOT spokesperson Justin Chesnic, the cameras were activated about a week ago and are recording. Recordings stay in the system for 72 hours. These are new cameras, as there were not any at this interchange in the past.
According to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), the diverging diamond is believed to reduce crashes by over 30%, plus construction can be cheaper and faster.
