Through three weeks of the 2A Greater St. Helens League football schedule, the Washougal Panthers have worked their way into a favorable position.

Washougal (4-1, 3-0) stands alone in first place after completing a challenging part of its schedule with wins over Woodland and most recently, Ridgefield, on Friday .

Last year, the Panthers lost those two games by a combined score of 33-0 as they went on to finish third behind league champion Woodland and runner-up Ridgefield. Those three teams have combined to win the last four 2A GSHL titles.

“We’re going to preach to our guys, we’re in the driver’s seat,” Washougal coach Dave Hajek said. “Not that we’ve won league, because we haven’t, but we feel pretty good that we’ve beat Woodland and Ridgefield. You’ve got to feel good about that.
