A University of Chicago professor has been charged with violent felonies in relation to riots at a nearby ICE facility , the Cook County Sheriff's Office confirmed to FOX News on Monday (October 6).

Eman Abdelhadi , who serves as an associate professor within the school's Department of Comparative Human Development, was charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a government employee, a Class 3 felony; and two counts of resisting/obstruction peace, a Class A misdemeanor and is scheduled to appear in court again on Tuesday (October 7). Protesters have held demonstrations for weeks outside the ICE facility in Broadview, Illinois, which reportedly included blocking vehicles from exiting and getting into violent confrontations with authorities.
