A former athletic trainer at Wake Forest University is suing U.S. Rep. Pat Harrigan.

She said the congressman made false assertions that he got her fired following critical comments on social media about the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

In a lawsuit filed Friday in Forsyth County Superior Court, Bridget Sullivan seeks $75,000 in damages from Harrigan, a Republican whose district includes Catawba, Lincoln, Iredell, Yadkin and Forsyth counties.

The suit accuses Harrigan of gross negligence, intentional, malicious and reckless disregard for the truth and a failure to determine whether his words were true before posting them.
