Westbound lanes on Rt. 422 are closed in Upper Providence, Pennsylvania, after a truck carrying lithium batteries caught fire, officials said.

The Big Lots tractor-trailer was traveling on Rt. 422 westbound at mile-marker 184.1 on Tuesday around 8:30 a.m. when the vehicle caught fire. First responders and hazmat crews responded to the scene. Officials have not yet revealed if anyone was injured or the cause of the fire but confirmed the truck was filled with lithium batteries which pose a significant fire risk.

Route 422 westbound is currently closed at Route 29 Collegeville due to the fire. Drivers in the area are advised to exit at the Route 29 westbound exit.
