THE Kansas City Chiefs got away with a contentious call during Monday Night Football.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes successfully persuaded the officials to pick up a flag in the first quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Mahomes, 30, got the game off to the perfect start for the visitors by finding tight end Travis Kelce on a two-yard touchdown pass.

But a flag was thrown by the officials on the play, with wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster called for offensive pass interference.

The 28-year-old had collided with a Jaguars defender tasked with covering Kelce.

Chiefs players protested vociferously against the decision, with Mahomes seen in deep conversation with the refs.

Moments later, the flags were picked up and the touchdown awarded.
