Police alleged the man removed merchandise from a Second Street business on Aug. 8 without paying for it. Police also alleged while the man was in custody at the Cornwall courthouse on Aug. 13, he was placed in a cell for not complying with a special constable’s direction, and assaulted the officer after the cell door was closed. He was in custody at the courthouse on Monday when he was transferred into Cornwall police custody. Article content

The man was charged with assaulting a peace officer, and five counts of breach of probation for failing to keep the peace.

He remained in police custody pending a bail hearing in Cornwall court.
