BENCHLEY, Texas (KBTX) - Robertson County leaders are reviewing how communications were handled after a train derailment over the weekend near Benchley.

Union Pacific says 18 rail cars derailed around 11 p.m. last Saturday, Oct. 4 in a wooded area near Highway 6 and Old OSR, about eight miles northwest of Bryan. No one was hurt, and no materials were released. Cleanup and repairs were completed by Monday morning, and the track has reopened to train traffic, according to Union Pacific spokesperson Robynn Tysver. The company said the cause of the derailment remains under investigation.

Neighbors told KBTX they heard loud bangs and cracking for about a minute, followed by silence. Photos shared with the station show overturned rail cars.
