ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) -- Virginia ranks in the top 20 soybean producing states in the United States, and the ongoing tariff battle with China is having an impact on soybean farmers in the Commonwealth.

As a result of the tariff dispute, China has imposed harsh retaliatory tariffs on U.S. soybeans , and has not purchased any U.S. soybeans since May. Until then, China was the biggest customer of U.S. soybeans, purchasing more than $12.5 billion a year. That equates to roughly 54% of all U.S. soybean exports.

China is now buying more soybeans from Argentina and Brazil to make up for the supply it was receiving from the United States.
