Congress MP from Outer Manipur, Dr Bimol Akoijam, has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Manipur High Court, alleging large-scale corruption worth ₹1,222 crore in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in the state.

He has sought a court-monitored inquiry, claiming that despite massive expenditure, most villages across Manipur — including in his own constituency — still lack access to piped water connections.

Calling it a “fraudulent siphoning of public funds,” Dr Akoijam said the situation exposes the gap between official claims and ground reality. “Even today, people in Manipur get water for barely one to two hours a day,” he said, highlighting that this falls far short of the JJM’s objective of ensuring regular household water supply.
