The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is currently verifying reports that an Indian national has been captured by Ukrainian forces, a source told News18 on Tuesday.

According to the source, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv is ascertaining the veracity of the report. As of now, no official communication has been received from the Ukrainian side.

These comments come after a report by The Kyiv Independent stated that Ukraine’s 63rd Mechanized Brigade had captured an Indian citizen who was allegedly fighting for Russian forces.

The individual was identified as Majoti Sahil Mohamed Hussein, a 22-year-old student from Morbi, Gujarat. According to the brigade, Hussein had travelled to Russia to study at a university but was later imprisoned on drug-related charges. He was sentenced to seven yea
