Currently 6–0–1, the Monroe University women’s soccer team is aiming to reclaim its spot as best in the nation. Although Monroe is a four-year institution, its athletics programs compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). In 2018, the women’s soccer team was victorious in the NJCAA Division I National Championship.
In the years since, Monroe’s women’s soccer team has continued to do well despite repeated coaching changes, but it has not returned to the same level it had in 2018. After years with Monroe’s men’s soccer team — winning National Championships in 2019, ’22, and ’23 — head coach Jonathan Avila has made the move to the women’s team, intent on providing the leadership and direction to reach the ultimate success.
