DES MOINES, Iowa —
Ian Roberts, the former superintendent of Des Moines Public Schools, was arrested by ICE over a week ago , and a local immigration attorney is now shedding light on why Roberts may have been denied a green card four times.
Matt Mauntel-Medici, an immigration attorney with BrownWinick Law Firm in Des Moines, explained that once someone falls out of legal status, it is difficult to regain it, which may have been the case for Roberts.
Mauntel-Medici said, "Typically speaking, you need to show that you were in some type of status at the time."
He noted that once a green card application is denied, it becomes challenging to get it approved in the future, which could have been Roberts' situation.
