A right-wing journalist and influencer arrested at a Portland immigration protest acted in self defense and will not be prosecuted, a senior deputy district attorney determined.
The Monday announcement came just 2½ hours ahead of Nick Sortor’s planned arraignment on a single count of second-degree disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor, at the Multnomah County Justice Center.
Sortor, 27, was arrested Thursday alongside two left-wing protesters outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in South Portland.
The arrest sparked a political maelstrom, drawing condemnation from President Donald Trump’s press secretary and prompting the U.S. Department of Justice to probe whether local officers have engaged in “viewpoint discrimination.”
