HOUSTON (KIAH) — The Houston Roughnecks are no more, but the Houston Gamblers are coming back as the United Football League made some big changes for the 2026 season.

The fledgling spring football league announced that the Houston franchise will change its name back to the Gamblers and will play its games at Shell Energy Stadium, where the MLS team Houston Dynamo plays.

The Gamblers was the name of the Houston team in the United States Football League in the mid-1980s and in its revived campaign in 2021-2023.

The Gamblers were renamed the Roughnecks in 2023 when the USFL merged with the XFL to form the UFL. The Roughnecks were the name of the Houston team in the XFL in the early 2000s.
