A 69-year-old truck driver is suing former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez and Fox Corporation after a violent altercation outside a hotel in Indianapolis. The lawsuit, filed by Perry Tole in Marion Superior Court, claims Sanchez instigated the fight late Saturday night, resulting in serious injuries to Tole, including permanent disfigurement and emotional distress. Tole's legal team is seeking unspecified actual and punitive damages, along with attorney's fees.
According to police reports, the confrontation began over a parking dispute. Sanchez, 38, allegedly approached Tole, who had parked his truck in a hotel loading dock. The police affidavit states that Sanchez, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, entered Tole's truck without permission and physically confronted him. In response, Tole used pepper spray on Sanchez. When Sanchez continued to advance, Tole reportedly pulled out a knife in self-defense, leading to Sanchez sustaining multiple stab wounds to his upper torso.
A photo circulating online shows Tole in a neck brace in a hospital bed, with visible injuries, including a deep cut on his face. Sanchez was also hospitalized following the incident. He is currently facing felony battery charges, along with several misdemeanors, related to the fight.
Marion County prosecutor Ryan Mears commented on the situation, stating, "We are literally talking about people fighting over a parking space and-or a dispute about where people are parking, and it resulted in someone receiving just incredibly significant injuries."
Sanchez was in Indianapolis for Fox's coverage of a game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders. He had a notable 10-year NFL career, primarily with the New York Jets, before retiring in 2019. After his playing career, he worked as a sports analyst for ABC and ESPN before joining Fox Sports in 2021.
As of now, representatives for Sanchez have declined to comment on the lawsuit, and attempts to reach Tole's attorneys for further details have not been successful. The lawsuit requests a jury trial to address the claims made against Sanchez and Fox Corporation.
