Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach was targeted Tuesday morning in a swatting call, the second hoax report involving a hospital in Orange County in a matter of hours.

Newport Beach police said its dispatch center received a call Tuesday morning about a shooting at the hospital near Newport Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway.

Officers searched the medical center campus, but found no evidence of a shooting.

The call was later determined to be a case of swatting.

Swatting involves a hoax call made to authorities in an effort to draw a law enforcement response to a home, business or other location.
