A multi-vehicle accident in a construction zone on Interstate 470 west in West Virginia has led to the road’s closure.
According to area law enforcement, a multi-car/tractor-trailer accident near Exit 1 on I-470 west — right where the highway splits to two separate lanes for decking work and bridge painting — has led to the closure. The accident happened shortly before 1 p.m.
At least one person had to be extricated from a vehicle that appeared to be smashed between the concrete median and the tractor trailer. There are not yet reports on injuries.
The Wheeling Police Department and Ohio County Sheriff’s Department closed the interstate at its split with I-70 just past the Elm Grove exit to allow crews to clear the accident.
