Shillong, Oct 7: Meghalaya has witnessed a substantial increase in its voter registration over the past two decades, with more than nine lakh new names added to the electoral list between 2005 and 2025, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) BDR Tiwari said.

Tiwari informed that during the last SIR in 2005, the total number of electorates in Meghalaya was 13, 35, 816 and as of September 2025 this number increased to 23, 06, 384.

The last intensive revision of the electoral roll was conducted in 2005, with the list published on April 15 of that year.

Addressing a press conference today, the CEO informed that a meeting was conducted with various political parties on preparations for the upcoming nationwide Special Intensive Revision (SIR), recently conducted in Bihar by the Election Commission
